The Horndean Countryside in August 2007

Many crops have ripened and are now drying out from the July rains, fields of hay have been cut and bailed but this year the countryside is still looking very green as seen in the first picture of Catherington Down taken from the west side of Lovedean Lane. Puffballs are appearing in several places and we noticed several acorns dropping, some of which are beginning to develop 'knoppa' wasp galls. The last picture shows a Silver-washed Fritillary at Catherington Lith and at Wick Hanger on the 5th August. Several fast flyers were seen across the area but these specimens looked rather tired and worn.
