The Horndean Countryside in May 2007

The cows are now grazing up on Horndean Down seen here on the11th May seen here from footpath No.40 leading up to the Windmill. The only vegetation along this footpath is a stretch of brambles that were being attacked by numerous Brown-tail moth caterpillars, this picture shows up their ginger hairs which can cause severe skin irritation. On 16th May a pair of Stonechats were busy attending to their nest in the hedgerow along Boyes Lane, Blendworth. Several skylarks were seen here as well as at Horndean Down. Several species of beetles have been seen this month, especially in the Holt and at Catherington Down, to see more click here.
